Angel Tuttle – Candidate for Stony Plain Town Council
Stony Plain has always been home for me. I grew up here, attending elementary school through to my graduation at Memorial Composite High School. After completing my university degree in Education, I returned to Stony Plain to teach. For 28 years, I had the privilege of teaching children from Kindergarten to Grade 9, connecting with their parents who often felt like extended family.
I raised my children in Stony Plain, and when I was widowed, it was the people of this community who stood beside me. My story of finding happiness and a new chapter after profound loss is a testament to my resilience and my belief in our community's ability to support one another.
Over the years, I've had the honour of volunteering with a psychologist to support children struggling with mental health and grief, and I have also supported adults navigating life-altering loss through education. These experiences, along with my time volunteering at the Stony Plain Library, with seniors, and at Otipemisiwak Métis Government events, have deepened my understanding of our community's diverse needs.
I've also been a proud supporter of local sports, volunteering with my sons’ teams and appreciating the simple joys that come with raising a family in our close-knit town. This has shown me the importance of supporting local business, a value I learned growing up in a family of entrepreneurs. I understand the work that happens behind the scenes and know that small businesses are what make Stony Plain unique.
Today, I am a proud Métis woman and currently serve as the Interim Associate Director with Rupertsland Institute, an affiliate of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. In this role and for the past three and a half years, I have been honoured to represent Métis voices at high-level government meetings across Alberta and Canada.
I am running for Town Council as a proud and educated woman with lifelong roots in Stony Plain. My professional experience in education and leadership, combined with my deep-seated commitment to this community, makes me ready to serve. My goal is to ensure Stony Plain continues to be a welcoming, supportive, and thriving place for all who call this town home.
